Kings County was declared a natural disaster area because of excessive drought conditions by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, making farmers and ranchers there and in neighboring Fresno, Tulare and Kern counties eligible to apply for low-interest emergency loans from the USDA's Farm Service Agency.

The loans are intended to help offset some loss farmers face. Residents have until Nov. 13 to apply for disaster assistance. For more information and to apply visit http://disaster.fsa.usda.gov or contact a local FSA Office.
