HSR workshop set for Wednesday in Fairmead

The first of two open-house workshops on high-speed rail options in the Chowchilla area will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Galilee Baptist Church in Fairmead.

The workshop by the California High-Speed Rail Authority will present information about the "Chowchilla Wye," the railroad term for a Y-shaped junction. The Chowchilla Wye is for high-speed train tracks converging from Merced to the north, Fresno to the south and San Jose to the west. Multiple options are being considered for how and where the connections will be made.

The event will include presentations by authority CEO Jeffrey Morales, vice chairman Tom Richards of Fresno and Valley regional director Diana Gomez. The church is at 22491 Fairmead Blvd.

A second workshop will be 4 to 7 p.m. March 27 at the Chowchilla Fairgrounds Little Theater, 1000 S. Third St., Chowchilla.
