Steve Salomon, who has served as Visalia city manager since 1996, said he will retire this fall.

Salomon gave no definite date but previously told City Council members that he would give a six-month notice if he planned to leave.

Visalia Mayor Amy Shuklian on Tuesday praised Salomon for his work and demeanor during his tenure.

"Through both good and challenging times, he always maintained a calm approach to deal with issues," she said. "His ability to forge relationships with community stakeholders is unprecedented."
