A Crips gang member who police said was driving a car stolen Tuesday morning was taken into custody that afternoon in central Fresno.

Sgt. Tim Tietjen said the 24-year-old man had a mask and gloves in the car and was likely planning to used the Honda CRV in a robbery. Instead, he was stopped near Cedar and Belmont by members of the anti-auto theft task force as he appeared to be casing apartment complexes, Tietjen said.

The car, which also contained a woman's purse, was stolen when the owner left it alone to warm up outside a home.
