A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a car Monday morning near Porterville, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Bobby Boyles, 36, of Porterville was southbound on Highway 65 approaching Avenue 112 when the crash happened about 11 a.m.

Boyles was riding a 2008 Suzuki behind a Honda vehicle driven by Cecilia Contreras, 21, of Terra Bella, who signaled to make a left turn onto the avenue.

Boyles accelerated and passed a vehicle between him and the Honda as Contreras was turning, the CHP said. He collided with the rear of Contreras' car.

Boyles was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center. Contreras was not hurt.
