Fresno police arrested an 18-year-old man and his 21-year-old sister on Saturday when they returned to a southeast Fresno market to buy cigarettes just hours after allegedly shooting someone at the same location.
Officers responded to the Church Market, 4620 E. Church Ave., around 11:28 a.m. for a victim of a shooting. When they arrived, officers found a 26-year-old man with a graze wound to the head.
The victim was inside the liquor store when he began to argue with another man who was with a woman over belonging to rival African American gangs, Lt. Mark Salazar said.
The argument continued outside the store where Charles Williams pulled a handgun out of his backpack and fired several rounds at the victim, Salazar said.
Williams and the woman, who was identified as his sister Shacola Muhammad, fled in a GMC Yukon SUV.
The siblings returned to the store around 3:30 p.m. while a detective was inside conducting his investigation, Salazar said.
The detective recognized the pair and took them into custody. Williams admitted his role in the shooting. The Yukon was towed and detectives recovered the suspect's backpack, which had the gun inside.
Williams was booked into the Fresno County Jail in connection with the shooting and for possession of a gun. Muhammad was booked into the jail as being an accessory.
