Fresno State won one of three games in its Mountain West Conference-opening baseball series against San Diego State, but that lone win by Tyler Linehan made an impression.

Linehan pitched an eight-hitter in the Bulldogs' 1-0 win Friday, and for his efforts was named Monday as the Mountain West pitcher of the week. Linehan struck out seven while walking two.

It's the second MWC honor for a Bulldogs pitcher. Derick Velazquez earned the nod March 4.

Sunbirds roll to women's tennis win

Fresno Pacific beat Cal State Stanislaus for the second time this season, again 8-1, in a women's tennis match in Turlock.

The NCAA Division II No. 28 Sunbirds swept the doubles for a 3-0 lead. Marie Boura -- 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 -- was one of five players to earn sweeps in singles.
