A proposal to base F-35C fighter jets at Lemoore Naval Air Station beginning in 2017 is the topic of a public meeting Tuesday in Lemoore.

At an open house, Navy officers and experts will display large posters and answer questions about noise, air quality and other topics related to stationing about 100 joint strike fighter jets at either Lemoore Naval Air Station or El Centro Air Facility.

Written comments on the draft environmental impact report for the West Coast "homebasing" project can be submitted.

Comments are due by April 22. A final environmental impact statement will be released later this year, followed by a Secretary of the Navy decision on where to base the new jets.

The meeting is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lemoore Civic Auditorium, 435 C St., Lemoore.
