Fresno State's baseball season seems to get more trying with each game.
The Bulldogs appeared to tie Sunday's game against San Diego State in the bottom of the seventh inning when Trent Garrison tagged up from third base and scored on Chris Mariscal's deep fly out to center.
But the Aztecs appealed that Garrison had left third base before the catch and the umpiring crew agreed. The run was taken off the board and the Bulldogs couldn't recover in falling 4-2 at Beiden Field.
Fresno State coach Mike Batesole came out of the third base dugout and argued his point but didn't get anywhere, and the Bulldogs (4-14, 1-2) ended up losing two of three in their first Mountain West Conference series.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs did show a few more signs that they could be on the right track. Starting pitcher Will Munro limited San Diego State to one run and three hits through the first six innings before getting into trouble in the seventh when he allowed three hits and two runs as the Aztecs took their first lead of the game at 3-2.
