Fresno State is tied for the best record after the second day of the Capital Classic softball tournament in Sacramento.

The Bulldogs beat Texas State 6-1 in their first game Saturday before falling 3-0 to host Sacramento State and sit 2-1 at the five-team, round-robin event. Kansas, which lost to Fresno State 3-2 on Friday, also is 2-1.

Fresno State (17-12) wraps up at 1 p.m. today against Saint Mary's.

Against Texas State (5-20), freshman second baseman Whitney Smith hit her first homer -- a solo shot in the fourth inning -- and Michelle Soloman had an RBI triple -- her 12th extra base hit of the season -- in the third.

But the bats went silent against Sacramento State (13-8) as Caitlin Brooks pitched a two-hitter. Alyssa Vanderdrink and Kortney Solis homered as the Hornets beat the Bulldogs for a second time this year.
