LAS VEGAS -- New Mexico did it to UNLV again, pulling off an upset of the Rebels for the second straight year at the Mountain West Conference women's basketball tournament.
The victory Thursday wasn't quite the stunner of a season ago, when as a seventh seed the Lobos beat second seed UNLV 61-58. But it pushed fifth-seeded New Mexico (17-13) on to a semifinal today against top-seeded San Diego State, a 67-39 winner over Nevada. San Diego State (25-5) had a 29-3 advantage in points off turnovers in its 16th straight win. Chelsea Hopkins had a tournament-record 14 assists.
Third-seeded Wyoming advanced to play Fresno State, as the Cowgirls (24-6) -- down 14 -- rallied past sixth-seeded Colorado State 60-58 on Chelan Landry's late basket.
