The 55th annual Peach Blossom Festival of Oral Interpretation at Fresno State started its two-day run Thursday.

Publicity coordinator Destiny Brazil said the festival will bring more than 4,000 students in grades K-6 from 200 schools ranging from Livingston to Delano to share in oral recitals and dramatic presentations.

Hosted by the Department of Communication, the festival is coordinated by a committee of university students under festival director Stacie Mimura, a part-time professor in Communication. The festival was created to help young people gain knowledge and appreciation of literature through oral interpretation and performance. It also gives the children an opportunity to visit a university campus.

The festival continues Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at various locations on campus.
