A Fresno man was ordered to stand trial in an animal cruelty case where 19 horses were found without food near Clovis.
Dana Thomas Kahler, 60, will be arraigned on April 18 after Fresno County Superior Court Judge Gregory Fain said he found enough evidence existed to show that Kahler was guilty of 12 counts of felony animal cruelty.
The horses were found Dec. 20, 2011, on the property after neighbors reported to authorities that the horses were thin. The discovery was one of the largest of its kind in Fresno County at the time.
That day, Kahler had arrived in his pickup truck pulling a trailer with more than 20 bales of hay, said Fresno County sheriff's deputy Pete Garcia.
Central California Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals euthanized two horses at the scene and three more have been euthanized since that time, said spokeswoman Beth Caffrey. She said two more horses were born from Kahler's group, four were adopted and one is at a horse rescue.
