A Fresno man alleged to have stabbed a homeless man to death last year was ordered to go to a state mental hospital Thursday because he is incompetent to stand trial.

Judge Don Penner ordered Paul Allen Johnson, 46, to the state mental hospital in Atascadero and said Johnson will require an involuntary anti-psychotic medication order.

Johnson is accused of stabbing a homeless man in an alley at a strip mall near Chestnut and Olive avenues in early 2012. He was arrested in February.

He will have a hearing on April 11 before being sent to the hospital.
