BASEBALL

-- Kerman, the Central Section's defending Division IV champion, rallied from a 2-0 first-inning deficit as Carlos Salazar struck out 12 in five innings and Eric Montero delivered two hits, an RBI and a save in a 3-2 nonleague win over Selma.

-- Steven Aguayo pitched a one-hitter and sparked the offense with a two-run double in the second inning as Firebaugh beat Farmersville 11-1 at the Immanuel Tournament.

SOFTBALL

-- Kaylynn Burt hit a two-run homer -- her second of the year -- in a nine-run fourth inning that put the finishing touches on No. 1 Central's 18-0 win over Johansen-Modesto.

-- Junior center fielder Megan Salazar went 4 for 5 with eight RBIs -- smashing three-run home runs in the fifth and sixth innings -- to lead No. 7 Buchanan past Los Banos 14-3. Salazar also had a double and two RBIs in the opener, a 4-3 Bears victory.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

-- Miguel Nievas resigned as Memorial's coach, school Athletic Director Anthony Goston said. Nieves went 93-67 with one league title and one Central Section championship in five years. Goston said he expects Neives' replacement to be announced in early May.
