San Jose State fired coach George Nessman after eight years with the Spartans and ahead of the school's move next season into the Mountain West Conference.

Athletic Director Gene Bleymaier announced the move a day after the season ended with a 67-49 loss to Texas-San Antonio at the Western Athletic Conference tourney. San Jose State went 9-20, their second straight season with nine wins.

Nessman, a former Porterville College coach, was 86-161 in his tenure and led the team to the College Basketball Invitational in 2011.
