A woman bystander was shot Wednesday night following a dispute between a barber and other individuals at a Manchester Center barber shop in central Fresno, police said.

A barber at Colima's Fade Shop was arguing with a woman about 7 p.m. when she and two male companions left. About a half-hour later, the two men returned and one pulled out a gun and opened fire on the barber, missing the barber but hitting a woman bystander in the back, Lt. Jose Garza said.

The shooter and his companion then fled to the parking lot and disappeared. Police were still looking for the suspects Wednesday night.

The injured woman was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where she was reported in serious but stable condition.

Garza said most of the shopping center's stores were closed when the shooting occurred.
