  In response to "Sherriff Mims ends legal fight with Fresno County" (Feb. 5), I believe Sheriff Mims has done the right thing to end this lawsuit. From what I read, this lawsuit cost $450,000 -- spending more taxpayers' money -- when it could be used toward holding more criminals in jail.

  Although I do not agree with everything the Board of Supervisors does (including the 9% pay cut for a lot of county workers), I do think it was in the best interest to have them make certain decisions regarding jail monies and closures. Keeping jail pods open increases the amount of criminals off the street. By Sheriff Mims closing these pods, a revolving door was created. Criminals were being booked in and released back to our streets.

  The Board of Supervisors had to step in, not trying to step on feet, but step on the core issue. That is the safety for those who reside in Fresno.
