Katelan Galleano's squeeze bunt scored pinch runner Alyssa Jantzen with the go-ahead run, highlighting a three-run sixth inning, as Madera shocked top-ranked and Central Section defending Division I champion Central 3-1 in a nonleague game. Jackie Anzaldo pitched a four-hitter, Mariah Davis had two hits and Naomi Gomez an RBI as the Coyotes beat Bee All-Star Rachel Rodriguez. Kaylynn Burt went 2 for 2 with an RBI for the Grizzlies, who went 28-6 last season.
Bee All-Star Sierra Hyland returned from an ankle injury in style, pitching a three-hitter and striking out 14, as No. 2 El Diamante defeated No. 4 Clovis 5-1 in a nonleague game on the Cougars' diamond. Miners sophomore shortstop Rylee Pierce hit two home runs, including a towering two-run shot to center field.
Kayla Gomness twirled a no-hitter as Lemoore defeated Hoover 15-0 in a nonleague game stopped after six innings.
Kayla Day had just that -- a day to remember -- with three hits, including a double and two RBIs, and a six-hitter with eight strikeouts as Caruthers coasted past Corcoran 13-4 in a nonleague game.
