Fresno City College quickly excised the drama from its Central Valley Conference series opener with Sequoias, then piled on the rest of the day.
The Rams -- No. 5 in the new NorCal baseball rankings -- led 5-0 after two innings of an 11-4 win over the No. 15 Giants on Tuesday at John Euless Ballpark.
Justin Flores had four RBIs and Anthony Hawkins three for the Rams (13-6, 8-2). Ryan Luna (3-1) got the win, as four pitchers totaled 11 strikeouts.
Matt Cota and Tyler Newberry each had two hits for Sequoias (9-10, 5-5).
-- Joe Doering pitched a six-hitter and Nate Broaddus had three RBIs as Reedley knocked West Hills out of the CVC lead with a 13-1 win. Mike Hostetler scored three and drove in one for the Tigers (6-10, 3-4). The Falcons fell to 8-8 and 5-2.
-- Porterville is 7-10 and 3-7 after a 3-1 win over Taft (4-12-1, 1-6).
Rams sweep in softball
Rainie Thiessen was a combined 6 for 8 and Kyla Cisneros 4 for 8 and Kassandra Workentine and Grace Combs both dominant in the circle as Fresno City College swept West Hills in a CVC softball doubleheader, winning 4-1 and 10-0.
Workentine (5-1) struck out eight. Combs (10-3) fanned six in a three-hitter for the state No. 10 Rams (15-5, 5-1).
-- Reedley swept Porterville, with Alexis Cervantes pitching a four-hitter in a 2-1 victory. Cervantes homered and drove in two in her win. Spencer Silva had two RBIs and got an 8-4 win for Reedley (12-12, 4-2). Porterville is 8-14 and 0-5.
Rams volleyball star will play for Fresno Pacific
Fresno City College volleyball star Toni Murphy -- a JC All-American this season while helping the Rams to a fourth-place state finish -- has accepted a scholarship to play for Fresno Pacific this fall.
The Rams' Alex Paredes and Kaitlyn Henderson previously signed with Cal State Bakersfield.
