Fresno City College quickly excised the drama from its Central Valley Conference series opener with Sequoias, then piled on the rest of the day.

Justin Flores had four RBIs and Anthony Hawkins three for the Rams (13-6, 8-2). Ryan Luna (3-1) got the win, as four pitchers totaled 11 strikeouts.

Matt Cota and Tyler Newberry each had two hits for Sequoias (9-10, 5-5).

-- Joe Doering pitched a six-hitter and Nate Broaddus had three RBIs as Reedley knocked West Hills out of the CVC lead with a 13-1 win. Mike Hostetler scored three and drove in one for the Tigers (6-10, 3-4). The Falcons fell to 8-8 and 5-2.

-- Porterville is 7-10 and 3-7 after a 3-1 win over Taft (4-12-1, 1-6).

Rams sweep in softball

Rainie Thiessen was a combined 6 for 8 and Kyla Cisneros 4 for 8 and Kassandra Workentine and Grace Combs both dominant in the circle as Fresno City College swept West Hills in a CVC softball doubleheader, winning 4-1 and 10-0.

Workentine (5-1) struck out eight. Combs (10-3) fanned six in a three-hitter for the state No. 10 Rams (15-5, 5-1).

-- Reedley swept Porterville, with Alexis Cervantes pitching a four-hitter in a 2-1 victory. Cervantes homered and drove in two in her win. Spencer Silva had two RBIs and got an 8-4 win for Reedley (12-12, 4-2). Porterville is 8-14 and 0-5.

Rams volleyball star will play for Fresno Pacific

The Rams' Alex Paredes and Kaitlyn Henderson previously signed with Cal State Bakersfield.
