Thirteen schools and nearly 150 students competed in three tests (individual endurance, circuit training and relay race) in the math tournament hosted by the Madera County Office of Education.

The city of Madera will be getting a new police chief.

Madera city administrator David Tooley said Monday he will nominate Steve Frazier, the city's administrative services commander, to be the next police chief.

The appointment will require City Council approval.
