A citizen who noticed a woman tossing items out of the trunk of a car southwest of Madera on Tuesday morning called the Madera County Sheriff's Office, leading to the arrest of two suspects for grand theft and narcotics charges, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies found the car parked on the side of Avenue 12 1/2 near Road 24. A 24-year-old man inside said they ran out of gas, but deputies saw dozens of T-handle irrigation valves and gate valves, the Sheriff's Office said. The man and a 24-year-old woman, both from Kerman, claimed they found the irrigation equipment on the side of the road.

Deputies also found three glass pipes containing what they believed was methamphetamine.

The man was booked into the Madera County Department of Corrections on suspicion of drug and theft charges and committing a felony while out on bail. The woman was booked on suspicion of drug and theft charges.
