A five-day gang-suppression operation that was intended to reduce gang violence and shootings ended Sunday after 153 felony arrests and seizure of 19 illegal firearms, the Fresno Police Department said.
Eight shootings occurred in Fresno the week before the gang operation began, including a gang-related shooting that critically injured an 8-year-old girl, police Lt. Burke Farrah said.
During the operation, which began on Wednesday, shootings in the city were reduced by 50%, Farrah said.
Officers from the Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium assisted in the operation.
