A Norteno gang member has been taken into custody in connection with a drive-by shooting March 1 in southeast Fresno.

Police Sgt. David Ramsey said officers went to a stereo store in the 4000 block of Kings Canyon Road and Winery avenues after a window in the business had been hit by gunfire.

Ramsey said the intended target was a 37-year-old woman and her son, 17, a Bulldog gang member who had been sitting in a car across the street. The gunman struck the car twice.

Detectives identified an 18-year-old man as the suspect and arrested him during a traffic stop near Recreation and Huntington avenues. The gun believed to have been fired in the drive-by shooting was seized, Ramsey said.

Police said the suspect confessed to the shooting. He was held on charges that include assault with a deadly weapon.
