Matt Walker struck out eight in six innings and Rick Hancock went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a run as top-ranked Clovis North (9-2) won 7-0 over Redlands (7-1) at the Central California Showcase. The Broncos will open Tri-River Athletic Conference Friday night at No. 3 Clovis West (9-2), which also received an eight-strikeout performance from emerging senior Evan Harley (4-0) in a 4-1 win over Beyer-Modesto.
Trenton Kemp and Aaron Arude hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning, and sophomore Conner Loeprich gave up one hit in six innings as Buchanan (9-0-1) coasted to a 9-0 win over Sac-Joaquin Section power Pleasant Grove-Elk Grove at the Showcase.
Edison, which already has a 4-3 win over Clovis West, beat No. 5 Centennial 6-5 this time as sophomore Anthony Ward, walked, stole second and third, and scored on Anthony Munguia's single in the bottom of the eighth at the Showcase. Deondre Howard had two hits, two RBIs and the pitching win for the Tigers.
Mission Oak's Lucas Hugie (seven strikeouts) and Dinuba's Gene Cashu (10 strikeouts) each left after eight scoreless innings before the Hawks won 1-0 on four consecutive walks in the ninth at the Immanuel/Fowler Tournament.
