I find the Feb. 4 article, "Army seeks better mental health coordination," interesting because I can really relate to it. As an Army veteran, I have seen the effects that mental wounds have on fellow soldiers. Since these soldiers sacrifice their lives for the military, the least they can provide is proper care for those who need it.

The current stigma associated with getting help is a major problem holding soldiers back from using the programs that are provided. The current military program has its flaws and needs to be reevaluated. A flaw in the program is that soldiers are not asked about mental wounds until they're getting ready to come home.

Soldiers who have served a year away from their families won't tell anyone of the care they need. They fear they would be away from their loved ones even longer due to evaluations. My brother, who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, was one of the lucky ones who received the care he needed.
