A bicyclist was killed Thursday evening when he was struck by an SUV on Highway 198 and Ninth Avenue in Hanford, police reported.

The crash happened about 6:30 p.m. as a woman drove eastbound on Highway 198 in a Jeep Cherokee and the bike rider tried to cross the highway from the west side to the east side. The driver had no time to react when the bicyclist rode into her path, according to police, and he was thrown into the roadway after the collision.

The identities of the bicyclist and driver were not immediately released. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs played a part in the incident.
