The Clovis Unified School District said Friday that it's pleased to have offered a cash settlement to a second-grade student believed to have been molested by her teacher.

The district agreed this week to pay just over $2 million to the family of the second-grader, in light of charges of sexual abuse and child pornography against Freedom Elementary School teacher Neng Yang.

Yang was arrested in January 2012.

"From the moment we learned of the allegations against Mr. Yang, the district has taken every opportunity available to us to act quickly and with integrity to restore our community's confidence in the district and the thousands of employees who make a positive difference in the lives of our students every day," said Kelly Avants, the district's chief communication officer.

Yang faces criminal charges in both state and federal court. The cases are pending.
