A Dinuba bank was robbed Wednesday by a man who left behind a suspicious package that appeared to be a bomb, Dinuba police said.

The incident happened about 3:52 p.m. at the Rabobank branch in the 100 block of East Tulare Avenue.

Police received a hold-up alarm and a 911 call but the robber got away.

The bank robber left behind a suspicious package with a note indicating that it might be a bomb, so police evacuated the bank. The Tulare County bomb squad destroyed the package, which turned out not to have explosives.

The robber, who got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, is described as a Hispanic man between 50 and 60 years old, 5-feet-6 and weighing about 200 pounds.

He wore a long-sleeved green windbreaker-type shirt, jeans and a white and green baseball cap. He had a gray and white mustache and wore sunglasses.

The bank robbery does not appear to be related to a bank robbery that happened about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday in Visalia, Dinuba police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Dinuba police at (559) 591-5911 or leave an anonymous tip at (559) 591-TIP1 (8471).
