1 dead in Highway 49 crash east of Ahwahnee

A fatal collision on Highway 49 east of Ahwahnee is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

One person was reported dead and a second was taken to Community Regional Medical Center shortly before 11 a.m.

No details of the crash were available.

Highway 33 just east of Coalinga is blocked in both directions due to a solo vehicle crash into a power pole, Caltrans is reporting.

The crash was reported on Highway 33 between Calaveras and Alpine avenues. Caltrans issued a sigalert about 8:45 a.m. and had no estimate on when the highway will reopen.
