Scotty Roberts had an RBI single and scored in the bottom of the first as Madera beat Fresno 2-1 to improve to 5-1 at the Central Tournament. The host Grizzlies got four RBIs from Andrew Pifferini in a 9-5 win over Washington. A.J. Ferdinandi reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the seventh, stole two bases and scored on Nicco Dalena's flyball to left as Memorial edged Hoover 4-3.
SOFTBALL
Central's Rachel Rodriguez pitched a four-hitter and Taylor Rowley had a first-inning RBI single as the Grizzlies capped a 3-0 day at the Buchanan Tournament with a 2-0 win over Stockdale. The defending section D-I champs received a homer from Jilee Schanda in a 3-2 win over Madera and homers from Rowley and Kaylynn Burt in an 11-4 win over Kingsburg. Clovis West went 3-0 in pool B with Sarah Santana combining for six RBIs, two wins and a save in wins of 14-1 over Sanger, 7-3 over Hanford West and 4-2 over Madera. Clovis North is 3-0 in pool A of a tourney that continues Saturday.
