Madera sheriff seeks help to ID suspects in market break-in

Authorities hope the public can help identify two men who broke into the La Vina Market in Madera on Wednesday morning.

A surveillance camera recorded the two men pulling up to the store near Avenue 9 and Road 24 about 5:30 a.m. in a dark colored truck. After they failed to get the front door of the market open, one of the men smashed the window.

The men stole an ATM from the market, the Madera County Sheriff's Office said.

Two men are in custody following the theft of more than $400 in fuel from a Madera County ranch, sheriff's spokeswoman Erica Stuart said.

The men, ages 28 and 32, were taken into custody after the fuel began disappearing on March 31 from the ranch at Avenue 13 near Road 23, Stuart said. Both men were jailed on a $10,000 bond.

Madera County sheriff's deputies arrested two Chowchilla men -- one claiming to be a U.S. diplomat -- on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine early Friday.

The suspects, ages 44 and 25, were taken into custody after a vehicle stop about 2:30 a.m. on Avenue 24 in Chowchilla. The older man told deputies he was a U.S diplomat. The 25-year-old was on probation for vehicle theft and was wanted on three warrants.

They were booked into the Madera County Department of Corrections.
