The 26th annual Kids Day fundraiser for Children's Hospital Central California on Tuesday appeared headed for a record total, hospital officials said.

By the end of the business day Wednesday, the total had reached $458,000, surpassing last year's mark of $450,000.

And hospital officials said they were still tallying sales from sites and were optimistic that the total would reach the $480,000 goal, which would beat the record $470,514 raised in 2008.

Hospital officials said they should have the final count by today.

Kids Day is a partnership between The Fresno Bee, KFSN (Channel 30.1) and the hospital. The hospital estimated that between 3,000 and 4,000 volunteers helped with Kids Day this year. More than $5 million has been raised through the annual event.
