Abby Wambach moved to within four goals of Mia Hamm's team record on Wednesday as she scored in a 3-0 win for the United States over Iceland in the Algarve Cup opener for both sides.

It took until the 48th minute for the U.S. to open the scoring and it came from Lauren Cheney's corner kick as she played the ball into the area where Rachel Buehler, who was making her 100th appearances for the national team, found the back of the net.

Shannon Boxx doubled the advantage by heading home Christie Rampone's cross in the 63rd, and Wambach capped the victory with her 154th career goal four minutes from time, pushing her closer to Hamm's team record of 158.

The Americans will next face China in the competition on Friday.
