FRESNO STATE VS. SAN JOSE STATE

Tuesday: 6:35 p.m. at Beiden Field

Records: Bulldogs 3-7; Spartans 2-9

Radio: KFIG (AM 940)

The skinny: Fresno State is coming off the high of winning the weekend series against USC and continued to reap rewards Monday when Derick Velasquez was named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week. Velazquez pitched a complete game to give the Bulldogs a 5-1 win Saturday in his third career start. Velazquez had a shutout going until the final out when USC pushed across an unearned run. ... Former Western Athletic Conference rival San Jose State, which joins the Mountain West next season, has lost nine straight. Sunday's 2-1 loss in 10 innings at UC Santa Barbara was the Spartans' fourth one-run loss. ... Fresno State has already had one midweek game canceled this season because of rain and there's a threat of rain tonight.
