Prep highlights: MVP Korby Batesole leads Buchanan to Coca-Cola title

BASEBALL

Korby Batesole was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and was named most valuable player, leading Buchanan to a 9-5 victory over Edison in the championship game of the Coca-Cola Classic on Saturday. Jack Wheeless was named tournament's most outstanding pitcher. ... Clovis North's Jack Labosky hit a two-run homer in the first inning and finished the day 3 for 4 as the Broncos avenged an earlier loss to Mt. Whitney in the tournament with a 9-1 victory.

Josh Montelongo's two-run home run in the first inning set the pace for Sanger in a 11-2 victory over Reedley at the Central Classic. Daniel Macias was 2 for 4 with three RBIs for the Apaches. ... Brandon Bernal had a home run, helping Hoover to a 5-3 victory over Kerman. Logan Handzlik pitched three innings and had five strikeouts to earn the save.

Chris Hinojosa had a two-run double in the first and a three-run triple in the seventh to lead Corcoran to a 6-4 victory over Yosemite at the Central Valley Diamond Classic. Badgers starter Grady Eaton struck out nine before leaving after five innings.

Angel Garcia's RBI in the top of the ninth inning gave Le Grand a 5-3 victory over McLane at the Chowchilla Tournament. Gilbert Jaura had two RBIs in the Highlanders' 4-3 victory in the second game.

SOFTBALL

Ariel Robles hit a three-run homer over the left-field fence in the third inning, helping Sanger to a 11-3 victory over Liberty-Madera Ranchos in the championship game of the Edison Classic. Sanger advanced to the championship with a 3-0 victory over Edison. Freshman Genesis Zamora had a two-run triple in the first inning.

Dayna Manser had five RBIs as Memorial rolled past Mission Oak 13-1 at the Redwood Invitational. ... Gabby Russell had a double and three RBIs and Kendall McGowan drove in two runs in Mt. Whitney's 8-7 victory over the Panthers.

BOYS TENNIS

The California Boys Tennis Classic came to a close on Saturday with Menlo capturing the Division I championship with a victory over Santa Barbara, 6-1 in Division I. Los Altos took third place in the division. Other division winners: Redwood (D-II), Dougherty Valley (D-III), Clovis (D-IV), Alameda (D-V), Frontier (D-VI), Centennial (D-VII) and Sunnyside (D-VIII).

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Sanger defeated Clovis East 25-20, 25-18 to win its own tournament. Colby Hashimoto guided the Apaches to a 5-0 record and was named tournament MVP.

TRACK AND FIELD

Joe Herrera of Tulare Western ran a 48.75 in the 400 to set a meet record at the Sanger Spring Classic at Dodson Field. Hagen Reedy of Buchanan set a meet record in the 1,600, clocking in at 5:01.92. She also ran a 10:44.29 in the 3,200 -- another meet record. Nikki Okwelogu of Clovis West had a throw of 46-4 to take first place in shot put.
