Despite playing their fifth game in seven days, the Miami Heat kept their season-high winning streak alive.

But it wasn't easy.

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade combined for 79 points, and the Heat tallied their 12th straight victory in a 141-129 double-overtime triumph over the Sacramento Kings.

James had a season-high 40 points, to go with a career-high 16 assists and eight rebounds, while Wade added 39 points, eight boards and seven assists for Miami, which hasn't lost since Feb. 1 when it fell to the Indiana Pacers.

"It probably felt like 20 innings if it were a baseball game. But we needed double-overtime and we did it," James said.

The Heat are two wins away from the franchise's longest winning stretch of 14, accomplished from Dec. 6, 2004-Jan. 1, 2005.

Marcus Thornton hit eight 3-pointers and netted 36 points to lead the Kings, who have dropped six consecutive tilts.

"To be able to take that team into two overtimes, it just shows the testament of us growing," Thornton said.

A 9-2 spurt propelled the Heat to a 105-96 lead with 4:01 left in the fourth, but the Kings rallied a bit later.

After Wade's layup gave Miami a 110-101 edge with 2:20 to play, Sacramento outscored the hosts 11-2 to close out regulation. Thornton nailed three 3- pointers during the burst before DeMarcus Cousins' layup with 8.5 ticks remaining tied the contest at 112-112.

Wade's left wing jumper at the buzzer clanked off the front of the rim.

Triples by Thornton and Isaiah Thomas, sandwiched around a Wade jumper, gave the Kings a 124-123 margin, but James split a pair of foul shots with 29.3 ticks in OT to knot the contest. Chris Bosh missed a jumper at the horn to send the tilt into another extra session.

The Heat, though, seized control in the second overtime.

After Thornton hit another trey to pull Sacramento within 128-127 with 3:50 on the clock, Miami countered with an 11-2 surge to put the game away.

James netted the first seven points of the burst and Wade's layup capped it to put Miami ahead 139-129 with 1:01 to go.

Miami led 27-22 after a quarter of play, but the Kings outscored the hosts 31-24 in the second to take a 53-51 edge into the break.

Sacramento headed into the fourth with a slim 85-84 lead.
