Santiago Gaspar's goal in the 70th minute handed No. 2 Roosevelt a 1-0 win over No. 6 Dinuba in a Central Section Division II semifinal. The Rough Riders (20-1-3) will play for the crown against No. 1 Selma, which received three goals from Anthony Torres in a 4-2 victory over No. 5 South.
Eduardo Plascencia scored in stoppage time of overtime to give No. 3 Chowchilla a 3-2 win at No. 2 Mira Monte in D-IV. The Redskins will play No. 1 Delano for the title.
GIRLS SOCCER
No. 3 Buchanan took command early and didn't let go, receiving goals from Miranda Rudolf, Hayley Lopes, Hannah Coyle and Megan Lynes in a 4-1 road rout of No. 2 Bullard in D-I. The Bears will play Stockdale at home at 1 p.m. Saturday for the title in a rematch of last year's final won 3-2 by Buchanan.
Amber Rodriguez and Sydney Hernandez scored to lead No. 5 Sanger past No. 9 Tulare Western 2-1 in D-II as the Apaches reached the section finals for first time. Sanger will travel to Bakersfield to face No. 3 Garces at 7 p.m. Friday.
Orange Cove, promoted to D-V after winning last year's D-VI title, had Mari Cruz Chapa score and also provide the 110th assist of her career as the No. 1 Titans won 2-0 at home against No. 4 Sierra. They will remain home to play for the championship against No. 3 Lindsay, which received three goals from Jannely Rangel in a 4-3 road upset of No. 2 Fowler.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Megan Lee powered a 16-2 game-closing run, and Loren Pino drilled the winning 3-pointer with 45 seconds remaining as No. 10 Buchanan upset No. 7 Centennial 39-36 in a D-I first-rounder in Bakersfield. The Bears on Thursday will play at No. 2 Clovis West, which swept them 85-26 and 73-25 in the Tri-River Athletic Conference. "We're in excellent shape and deep enough to where we can wear people down," Buchanan coach DeRon Carbajal said.
Brittany Sims extended an impact season at center, scoring 14 points in No. 5 Edison's 74-32 rout of No. 12 Clovis North. The Tigers will play at No. 4 Clovis, which beat the Tigers 55-41 in early December.
Sixth-seeded Bullard received 29 points from freshman Aarion McDonald, 14 from Madissen Harp and 13 each from Elbria Wooley and Landynn Munster while rolling past No. 11 Clovis East 86-52 and into a quarterfinal at No. 3 Hanford, D-I's two-year reigning champion.
Emily Hardin, a junior guard and key contributor to consecutive Monache D-II titles in 2011 and '12, delivered 13 points, seven steals, three assists and three rebounds as the No. 8 Monarchs escaped, 42-40, against No. 9 Bakersfield in D-I.
Mary Kate Stammer scored 10 points in No. 9 Lemoore's 32-26 win over No. 8 Sunnyside in D-II.
Michelle Brown contributed 22 points and 16 rebounds, and Tynisha Thornton 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals as No. 8 Hoover coasted 62-39 against No. 9 Tulare, earning a trip to No. 1 Selma.
Megan Daniels scored 20 points to power No. 7 Riverdale past No. 10 Kerman in D-IV.
