What would have one of the more anticipated games of the 2013 FCS season has been scrapped.

North Dakota State athletic director Gene Taylor told The Forum of Fargo- Moorhead that Montana State has bought out of a Sept. 7 game at the Fargodome with the expectation the Bobcats will play at SMU that day.

NDSU is the two-time defending FCS national champion out of the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Montana State has won a share of the last three Big Sky Conference titles and finished this past season ranked No. 5 in The Sports Network FCS Top 25.

"Really angry, really disappointed. Stunned. I just don't understand it," Taylor told The Forum, adding Montana State is paying a $100,000 exit fee for pulling out of the NDSU game, which was signed in 2009.

The national champion Bison have 10 scheduled games, including five at home, and will look to find another non-conference game for either Sept. 7 or 14.
