Sean Doherty (Center Conway, N.H.) became the first U.S. biathlete to win three individual medals at a single world championships when he captured silver in the 12.5-kilometer pursuit, gold in the 10K pursuit and silver in the 7.5K sprint at the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships, held Jan. 23-Feb. 1 in Obertilliach, Austria. Casey Smith (Methow Valley, Wash.) was the top U.S. finisher in the men's 15K, taking 37th place. Jordan McElroy (Truckee, Calif.), Jacob Ellingson (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Doherty finished ninth in the men's relay, while the women's team - featuring Anna Kubek (Duluth, Minn.), Mikaela Paluszek (Farmington, N.H.) and Aleksandra Zakrzewska (Burlington, Vt.) - placed 13th in the 6K relay.

WIRE-TO-WIRE

Kikkan Randall (Anchorage, Alaska) led every stride of three heats to win the freestyle Olympic test event on Feb. 1 at the Laura Cross-Country Ski & Biathlon Center located just outside of Sochi, Russia. Teammate Ida Sargent (Orleans, Vt.) placed a career-best sixth. On Feb. 3, the U.S. capped a successful weekend with seventh and fifth-place finishes in the men's and women's team sprint.

BOBSLED & SKELETON

Noelle Pikus-Pace (Orem, Utah) continued her comeback from retirement with a silver in the women's skeleton at the 2013 World Championships, held Jan. 21- Feb. 3, in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Steven Holcomb (Park City, Utah) claimed a bronze medal with teammates Steve Langton (Melrose, Mass.), Justin Olsen (San Antonio, Texas) and Curt Tomasevicz (Shelby, Neb.) after breaking the track record in the four-man bobsled race.

CURLING

Team Dropkin claimed the men's title at the 2013 USA Curling Junior National Championship on Feb. 2 in Wayland, Mass., while Team Solem captured the women's crown.

FENCING

Mariel Zagunis (Beaverton, Ore.) returned to the podium on Feb. 2 with a bronze medal at the women's saber grand prix event in Orleans, France. Zagunis battled back from an 8-3 deficit in the semifinals, but eventually lost the bout to Dina Galiakbarova of Russia, 15-13.

Adrienne Jarocki (Middle Village, N.Y.) captured her first junior world cup title on Feb. 2 in Chandler, Ariz. Jarocki was joined on the podium by Emma Keehan (Chandler, Ariz.) and Sophie Keehan (Chandler, Ariz.).

Jackie Dubrovich (Riverdale, N.J.) struck bronze at the junior foil world cup on Feb. 3 in Lyon, France. Dubrovich lost her semifinal bout to silver medalist Martina Sinigalia of Italy.

LUGE

Team USA posted its best finish of the FIL World Championships in the team relay on Feb. 2 in Whistler, British Columbia. Erin Hamlin (Remsen, N.Y.), Chris Mazdzer (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) and the doubles team of Matt Mortensen (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and Preston Griffall (Salt Lake City, Utah) combined to finish fifth in a time of 2:04.86. Hamlin and Mazdzer recorded the top U.S. finishes in the individual races, each finishing sixth. Mortensen and Griffall finished 14th in the doubles competition.

RUGBY

The U.S. women's sevens team defeated Russia and Australia to advance to the final of the Houston Sevens Cup on Feb. 3 in Houston. In the final, England overcame the U.S. by a 29-12 score.

The U.S. men's sevens team tied England and lost to both Spain and New Zealand on Feb. 1, before dropping matches to Fiji and Wales on Feb. 2 in Wellington, New Zealand.

SAILING

Team USA won five golds, three silvers and three bronzes on the final day of racing at the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Miami. Fred Strammer (Nokomis, Fla.) and Zach Brown (San Diego, Calif.) won the 49er, Stuart McNay (Providence, R.I.) and Molly Vandemoer (Stanford, Calif.) won the 470, Caleb Paine (San Diego, Calif.) won the finn, Paige Railey (Clearwater, Fla.) won the laser radial, and Sarah Newberry (Miami, Fla.) and John Casey (Longwood, Fla.) won the NACRA 17.
