SCOTT FEDER

-- School: Mt. Whitney

-- Grade: Senior

-- Position: Line

-- What got him here: Defensive Player of the Year for the West Yosemite League and Visalia Times-Delta/Tulare Advance-Register, delivered 101 tackles, including 15 sacks and blocked two punts for an 8-3 team.

JOSHUA LOVINGOOD

-- School: Clovis North

-- Grade: Senior

-- Position: Line

-- What got him here: On the major-college recruiting radar, the 6-5, 260-pound All-Tri-River Athletic Conference selection dominated as a blocking tight end and defensive end opposite fellow Bee All-Star Isaiah Duran for a 12-2 team that captured the section's D-I title in the school's first year in the division. "Phenomenal athlete who averaged eight to 10 pancake (blocks) a game," Broncos coach Cory Hall says.

NICK NEVILLS

-- School: Clovis

-- Grade: Junior

-- Position: Line

-- What got him here: All-TRAC selection and state champion wrestler was a frontline anchor for a defense that gave up 10 or fewer points six times, including two shutouts, as the 9-2 Cougars captured their first outright league title in 16 years. "Nick brings a level of excellence that makes all around him better," coach Rich Hammond says.

TASHON SMALLWOOD

-- School: Central

-- Grade: Junior

-- Position: Line

-- What got him here: TRAC Lineman of the Year, at 6-2, 280, was arguably the section's most intimidating defensive lineman. He made 63 tackles, including 18 for losses and seven sacks. "He was extremely quick and versatile," Grizzlies coach Justin Garza said. "He was in the backfield so often, that's why people ran away from him."

RYAN STEELE

-- School: Kingsburg

-- Grade: Senior

-- Position: Line

-- What got him here: Two-time Bee All-Star capped a four-year varsity career by being named Central Sequoia League Defensive Player of the Year. The 6-2, 298-pounder started both ways, averaging 7.5 tackles for the Vikings, who went 9-3 this season and 46-6 with three section titles in his career. Next: Fresno State.

BEN SORENSEN

-- School: Buchanan

-- Grade: Senior

-- Position: Line

-- What got him here: All-TRAC defensive end was 11-for-11 in "outstanding football games," says Mike Vogt, making 75 tackles, including 22 tackles for losses. He also had seven sacks, two pass deflections, two recovered fumbles and four caused fumbles. Next: Sacramento State.

KODY BECKERING

-- School: Sunnyside

-- Grade: Junior

-- Position: Linebacker

-- What got him here: North Yosemite League Defensive Player of the Year averaged a section-leading 17.0 tackles for an 8-4 team that won the league at 5-0. "He's the best linebacker I've seen in the Valley, and I've been here since '93," Wildcats coach Jason Murray says. "There's big-time (college) interest in him, and he's got his eye on the prize."

ZACH CARTER

-- School: Bullard

-- Grade: Senior

-- Position: Linebacker

-- What got him here: County/Metro Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year made 50 tackles, including eight for losses and four sacks, and intercepted two passes for an 8-4 team that tied for the league title.

DEVAUGHN GAINES

-- School: Chowchilla

-- Grade: Senior

-- Position: Linebacker

-- What got him here: No player in the section was more involved in his team's success than the North Sequoia League MVP. As a quarterback operating a shotgun wing-T, he passed for 811 yards and 11 TDs and rushed for 1,266 and 20. And as a linebacker, he averaged 7.1 tackles, intercepted five passes and recovered three fumbles for a 9-4 team that tied for the league title and reached the D-IV semifinals.
