When you're George Strait, you don't just go out and get any ol' opening act.
It's like how George Clooney doesn't just go snag any ol' girlfriend.
For his "Cowboy Rides Away" farewell tour, Strait went and recruited another country star, a headliner in her own right: Martina McBride.
We've seen McBride around these parts many times, but this time, she's part of one of the hottest concerts of the year.
We talked to McBride about a number of topics. Here's what she had to say.
-- On being part of Strait's farewell tour: "It's an honor to do this tour. There are a lot of acts that would like to be able to do it."
-- On early memories of Strait's music: "My dad had a country band as a hobby. He played a lot of George Strait songs, so I grew up with him definitely."
-- On using Twitter to connect with her fans: "It's a great way to stay in touch with my fans and let them see a little bit more of me than they'd see in a typical interview."
-- On her next album: "We're just now figuring it out. I don't have a direction or songs. I have studio dates booked in March and hopefully I'll figure it out by then."
-- On what she remembers about past trips to Fresno: "I have an overall memory of a great place to play. I get a happy feeling."
