What readers said:

"Hey people, it does not take one bullet to stop a threat. A person could still fire off rounds towards officers and/or innocent bystanders after taking hits."

-- Nate P

" 'Some Fresno Police Officers may have a "propensity" to fire their weapons many times.' How much did this audit cost? Because anyone that's been near the scene of an officer involved shooting can tell you that. It often sounds like downtown Fallujah in the middle of the first Gulf War when the FPD discharge their weapons. The only thing missing is the sound of the F-15's flying overhead and a dozen guys all shouting Allah Hu Akbar repeatedly."

-- VoudeauxChild

"Yes the police do need to learn to aim better, and marksmanship should be a requirement to carry a firearm. Yet firing a handgun is not easy, especially on the fly in poor lighting. The fact is, look at who got shot. Learn to communicate properly. Don't run. Don't have a horrible attitude. Don't threaten the police. This generation needs to learn respect and proper behavior towards all other people, including the police."

More trash talk

What happened: A new advocacy group is suing the city of Fresno, alleging it didn't comply with state environmental law when it outsourced home trash service. Fresnans for Clean Air (FRESCA) disputes the City Council's decision that an outsourcing deal with Mid Valley Disposal will not significantly affect the environment.

What it means: The group wants the court to set aside the council's environmental decision and require the city to do a full environmental impact report before letting the Mid Valley deal proceed.

What readers said:

"Do these people forget so quick that the trucks Mid Valley Disposal would use the trucks purchased from the City? And, those trucks are CLEAN AIR TRUCKS! They are not diesel or gasoline, but Natural Gas. And, currently does the City pay vehicle registration? NO, THEY DON'T. But a private company would have to pay hundreds if not THOUSANDS of dollars to register these vehicles which gives them the right, like you and I to drive on the streets and highways. Should we limit the number of trips that a person can take now down a street?"

-- Robert Mendoza

"The California Environmental Quality Act needs to be reformed to specifically limit standing to sue to those who have suffered environmental harms. This business of competitors suing other compeitors using CEQA as a sword (think Wal*Mart lawsuits) and now unions suing the city over what is a stupid decision, but not one really affecting the environment, needs to stop."

-- djkc

"These groups can keep trying to throw roadblocks in the way of privatization but they are fighting a loosing battle. They are wasting the taxpayers' money over something that is enevitable. The City has much more to worry about that who ends up collecting our garbage. "

-- bigchucky

"I wonder how soon Coca-Cola will sue this group for using 'FRESCA?' "

-- AVGee
