Not all that long ago, Andy Finch was a young shredder turning heads at China Peak.
Now the Fresno native and former Olympic snowboarder wants to help discover the next generation.
Finch, who lives in Truckee, is returning to his hometown resort this weekend to host Saturday's Andy Finch Slopestyle Qualifier.
He's even arriving early to help build the jumps and jibs.
"I'll give people a couple different angles to approach each feature, and I look forward to seeing what the kids can come up with," Finch said.
Those who impress Finch with their ski or snowboard prowess will qualify for the March 16 finals, though China Peak also will be giving away prizes based on Saturday's contest.
Register for $15 in the base area from 8:30-10 a.m. Practice is 9-11, followed by the comp at 11. There's a chance of snow this weekend, so check road conditions before leaving the house. Details: skichinapeak.com.
