Bee's girls golf Coach of the Year: Ken Shipley of Clovis West

The Fresno BeeJanuary 14, 2013

He's qualified because: He's now 6 for 6 in Tri-River Athletic Conference and Central Section North Area titles in his Golden Eagles career. They also placed second to Stockdale by four strokes for the section Division I championship in Kern County after having won it four times under his leadership. This season, a six-player lineup that returned intact from 2011 tied a section record for lowest nine-hole team score with a 188 at Belmont Country Club and the Eagles broke their own three-year section record for lowest 18-hole score with a 375 at Madera Municipal Golf Course. As a team, the Eagles averaged 24.3 shots lower per 18 holes than a year ago. Camille Orito (New Mexico State) and Laura Scrivner (Fresno State) became the fifth and sixth Clovis West golfers to sign college scholarships since 2010.

He said it: "The girls had a great season. They worked hard, made very good progress and played some terrific golf. They had lots of great rounds and some terrific team and individual accomplishments. We lose our seniors, Camille and Laura, but have four starters returning. We had a young JV team that made lots of improvement, and will have some very promising eighth-graders who will join us. The 2013 team is going to be fun to watch."
