Emily Anderson scored 11 points to earn MVP honors while helping Clovis West High power past Soquel 62-49 on Saturday to win the Monterey Sweet 16 girls basketball tournament.

All-tournament selections Sydne Gutierrez (14 points) and Taylor Knebel (nine points) also helped the Central Section No. 3-ranked Golden Eagles (8-4) complete a 4-0 run through the tournament.

-- Bayli McClard had 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead No. 2 Hanford in a 57-53 loss Monday to Nazareth of Brooklyn, N.Y. in the 16-team Platinum Division's fifth-place game at the West Coast Jamboree, a 120-team, 12-division tournament held in the Bay Area.

Fresno runner sets world record

Fresno runner Fernando Cabada won the Pleasanton Double on Dec. 23, a road race combining a 10-kilometer run followed by a 5K run with a short break in between.

It was the first time a Double had been held in the U.S., and organizers said Cabada's finishing time of 45 minutes, 35 seconds set a world record.

The former Buchanan High star is training for the Houston Marathon on Jan. 13.
