Clovis High, its pursuit of a third straight state team title under way, repeated as the champion of the Zinkin Classic wrestling tournament -- a 77-team event that wrapped up Saturday at Buchanan.

Individual champions included Tristan Gilliland (106 pounds), Jonas Gaytan (126) and Nick Nevills (285), while Adrian Salas (182) and Hexton Coronado (220) were runners-up and Dominic Kincaid (152) and Matt Weiss (195) each grabbed third-place finishes.

Lemoore two-time state champion Isaiah Martinez was named MVP after winning the 160-pound title.

The Cougars -- again top-ranked in the Clinch Gear California rankings -- totaled 266.5 points with Allen, Texas, second with 192 in a matchup of teams ranked eighth and 18th, respectively, in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News. Buchanan was third with 173.5, Green Valley-Henderson (Nev.) fourth with 155 and Lemoore fifth with 131.

Gilliland was the fifth-seeded survivor at 106, beating Selma's third-seeded Chris Cisneros 4-3 after top seeds Adrian Camposano of Central and Durbin Lloren of Buchanan forfeited when they failed to make weight. Two-time state medalist Gaytan, top ranked in California this season, won 11-5 over Riley Jaramillo of Churchill-Eugene (Ore.). Nevills, the 2012 state champ, beat Lemoore's Johnathan Roa by fall.
