Two Fresno-area schools nominated for National Blue Ribbon Honors

Two Fresno-area elementary schools were selected as National Blue Ribbon Honors nominees by the state Department of Education.

James K. Polk Elementary in Central Unified and James S. Fugman Elementary in Clovis Unified were two of 35 K-12 schools statewide nominated for the National Blue Ribbon award, the state said Thursday.

High-performing schools are eligible for the award by scoring in the 85th percentile in the percent of students scoring at least a proficient in English-Language arts and math on the state tests.

Eligible improving schools must have at least 40% of students from disadvantaged backgrounds that are also among the top 10% of schools in the state showing the greatest improvement in percent of students scoring at least a proficient in English-Language arts and math.
