Fresno County Supervisor Susan Anderson made her last public appearance on the county dais Tuesday as the board convened its final meeting of the year and the 12-year supervisor prepares to step down Jan. 7.
Anderson, 60, a longtime champion for social justice, particularly women's and children's rights, was lauded by her colleagues during a short celebration Tuesday morning.
"We are all so grateful for your service, for being such a tireless advocate for children in our community," said Kendra Rogers, executive director of First 5 Fresno County, a child advocacy agency.
Anderson represents the county's District 2, which includes Fig Garden, north Fresno and parts of Clovis. Prior to public office, she worked as a deputy district attorney in the Fresno County juvenile courts. She also served 10 years as the county's registrar of voters, where she became the first woman to hold an elected countywide office.
"I feel like I blazed a little trail," Anderson said. "It probably should have happened a long time ago before me."
