A Clovis Unified school teacher will be arraigned next week on allegations that she had sex with a Clovis East High School student earlier this year.

Lindsey Michelle Trimble of Auberry was arrested on suspicion of having sex with a minor and oral copulation, Clovis police said Tuesday.

Trimble resigned last week. She taught science at Clovis East and Reyburn Intermediate School since August 2010, Clovis Unified spokeswoman Kelly Avants said.

The incidents occurred in a private home in Fresno County between March and July, but Clovis police did not confirm the location.

Upon learning of alleged inappropriate behavior by a teacher, a school district employee notified the school's administration Thursday. Clovis Unified School District administrators called Clovis police immediately when they learned of the allegations, police said.

Detectives found enough evidence to make the arrest. The case remains under investigation. The alleged victim was 17 at the time and is now 18, officials said.

Court records show that Trimble lives in Auberry. A website for one of her science classes said she was married.

Two other cases involving female teachers and teenage boys have been in the Fresno County courts system this year.

Nadia Diaz, 27, a former Washington Union High teacher, was convicted of having sex with a 15-year-old male student and sentenced to 30 days on an adult work offender crew and three years probation, said Rick Berman, her lawyer. She also can't teach again, he said. She was 24 when the crimes occurred.

Berman said Diaz was not the aggressor in the case, but she was wrong.

"Some don't need to go to prison as the only suitable punishment or the only way to get their attention to stop reoffending," said Berman.

Diaz also was ordered to enroll in mental health counseling and attend a sex offender treatment program. But the judge did not require her to register as a sex offender for life.

Former Hoover High teacher Megan Denman, 30, who pleaded guilty in October to similar charges with a 17-year-old boy, will be sentenced in January. Her lawyer, Roger Nuttall, said he seeks a similar sentence.

"We're just hoping for a fair and appropriate outcome," he said. "These are just human beings who make mistakes in terms of their relationships and judgment."

Trimble is free after posting $55,000 bail. She makes her first appearance in Fresno County Superior Court on Dec. 20 for arraignment.
